The Vanquished Powers Were Glad

Posted by revkharma on August 12, 2014

As the Obama Administration muddles through one more vacation, they take some military action which is completely representative of the entire regime and it’s mindset.

In a story posted to Stars And Stripes Lt. General William Mayville says the following:

“We assess that U.S. airstrikes in northern Iraq have slowed ISIL’s operational tempo and temporarily disrupted their advances toward the province of Irbil. However, these strikes are unlikely to affect ISIL’s overall capabilities or its operation in other areas of Iraq and Syria,”

So, we will send our military to make lots of noise and flash, but the administration knows, in advance that is all for appearance, and no long term effect. They seem to believe that there are no real enemies which require engagement and long term attention.

Time and again this regime ‘pivots’ and applies a ‘laser like focus’ to a new issue, a new geopolitical crisis, only to move on once the headlines shrink away and the network cameras are pointed into another direction.

They believe their own hype, and are confident that we are in a ‘post-modern’ world. The US secretary of state blusters that the Russian leadership simply will stop, because ‘One simply does not do that in the twenty first century’.

You see, they just know more, they are better, they are undeniably more moral than any previous administration, or the hoi polloi over which they must rule.

Obama and his team simply imagine  because they think it, because they want it, the world will bend to conform to their statements and judgments. ISIS is ‘The JV team’ and not worth attention.

Syria will comply with Obama’s demands, because they simply must.

This regime believes their own hype and acts as if all the evil in the world will stop merely because they will it. They act as if there are no bad actors on the world state, and if only John Kerry can get a ‘sit down’ then every tyrant and dictator will see the inherent wisdom of his words and follow the lead of Obama the Great and Powerful.

Recently I came across something written by WH Auden, which I think poetically reflects my thoughts better than my ramblings above.

So an age ended, and its last deliverer died
In bed, grown idle and unhappy; they were safe:
The sudden shadow of a giant’s enormous calf
Would fall no more at dusk across their lawns outside.

They slept in peace: in marshes here and there no doubt
A sterile dragon lingered to a natural death,
But in a year the slot had vanished from the heath;
A kobold’s knocking in the mountain petered out.

Only the sculptors and the poets were half-sad,
And the pert retinue from the magician’s house
Grumbled and went elsewhere. The vanquished powers were glad

To be invisible and free; without remorse
Struck down the silly sons who strayed into their course,
And ravished the daughters, and drove the fathers mad.

We cannot simply ignore evil, it will not vanish simply because we ‘don’t believe in it anymore’.

Another shorter quote which I also believe is appropriate  may be more familiar.

In the words of Louis XV:

Après moi, le déluge

Keep the Faith!

Outrage, Rights and Moral Failure

Posted by revkharma on June 9, 2014

KHARTOUM (Reuters) – A Sudanese court has sentenced a 27-year-old woman to death for converting to Christianity, judicial sources said.
Mariam Yahya Ibrahim had been ordered to abandon her newly adopted Christian faith and return to Islam. She had also been charged with adultery for marrying a Christian man.

OK, Where is the condemnation from the United Nations? From western nations? From the White House? From the House or Senate? From ANY leaders anywhere in the world??

And one more thing:
“Sudan is committed to all human rights and freedom of faith granted in Sudan by the constitution and law,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Abu-Bakr Al-Siddiq said. He added that his ministry trusted the integrity and independence of the judiciary.

Note the phrasing ‘Granted… by the Constitution and Law…”
The words betry a mindset, one which is different from the original ideas enshrined in the US Constitution. At least originally our founding documents declared that our rights pre-exist and supercede our constitution and laws. Rights co exist with humanity, ‘endowed by their Creater’ and inalienable.
As soon as they are ‘granted by law, or granted by Constitution’, they can be removed or altered by law.
As we in this nation continue to ‘grant rights’ by government fiat, we move quickly toward a legal grant which can be removed also by law.

Watch out, we are moving toward the very standard embraced by the Sudanese.

One sentence summary of modern issues

Posted by revkharma on May 29, 2014

Reading an essay by Kevin Williamson, in National Review I came across this thought, buried in the middle of the piece.

It sums up much of what is wrong with so many, and thought it worth passing along.
It might be thought provoking to read the entire essay, (linked here)

But this one short sentence just made me pause and think:

Modernity sets us free, but it does not offer any answer to the question, “Free to do what?”

You Didn’t Build That…

Posted by revkharma on July 20, 2012

If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. ( B. Obama, 7/13/2012)

Tutto nello Stato, niente al di fuori dello Stato, nulla contro lo Stato (“Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State”) (B. Mussolini, 5/26/1927)

I have been inactive a while, but am compelled to return to my keyboard. Hearing the comments lately from our President gave me a sense of deja vu, and I went back to find the quote which it seemed to echo. I admit, it’s not exact, but it’s of a piece with the governing philosophy displayed by this adminstration.

So often when Mr. Obama says something ridiculous, his opponents rise and compare him to Hitler, or to Stalin, or call him a socialist, or a communist. While there are similarities in his politics to communism, the most clear comparison has got to be with Italian Fascism.

I don’t know why so many rush to the bait of the left. Obama is not hitler, he is not Stalin. ( aside from the fact that he is neither as intelligent, nor ruthless, and not even as charismatic).
From the inception of his campaign, the comparison to Mussolini and his collectivist, statist ideology has been clear.
His use of the coercive power of the state, eg the auto ‘bailout’…which was flat out a government take over.
The government funding, then abandonment of companies like Solyndra are close parallels to the ‘golden shares’.
Fascism is not about ‘goose stepping Nazi troops of the right wing’ it is about quasi private business being controlled by government.
The government tells business how to act, if the business fails, then government blames the fat cats. If it succeeds, then government takes credit, and takes more control. And those connected to the elite continue to make money while demonizing those who don’t follow their directives.
This is not communism, it is the original, true and clear fascism, as originally practiced by Mussolini and the Fascisti.

Even as popular site as Wikipedia in it’s article about Fascism rings loudly with comparisons.

After 1929, the Fascist regime countered the Great Depression with massive public works programs, such as the draining of the Pontine Marshes, hydroelectricity development, railway improvement

( Stimulus Bill anyone)

One truly interesting link: After forcing Chrysler into bankruptcy, the Obama administration and it’s ‘auto Czar’ sought out and found a new buyer for the recreated, and government controlled entity .

Government controlled Chrysler corp got a new partner, which was none other than fascist created and controlled Fiat Motors. Interesting how things come full circle sometimes, isn’t it?

In 1933, the Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale (IRI — Institute for Industrial Reconstruction) was established to subsidize failing companies,

(Tarp, auto bailout? Solyndra)

Look, we have to face facts. What we are seeing is the realization of a corporatist form of governance, enacted not by a doctrinaire marxist, but by someone simply craving power. This president condemns the actions of others, while simultaneously behaving in exactly the same way.

His allies in the donkey party cheer him on, knowing that they will continue to expand their personal empires. The elephant party plods along, mostly saying not so fast, not so fast, but not changing direction, only the speed with which government and the super rich like Warren Buffet take over as much as they can.

There is only possible answer, and that is to vote out any incumbent who has consistently increased the power and finances of the Central government in DC.

Senate majority leader..heave him out.

Speaker Boehner.. send him home to weep quietly to himself in a tanning booth in Ohio.

We need real change, so we can once again believe in our government.

Keep the Faith!

The Pay Czar And Illegal Acts

Posted by revkharma on October 23, 2009

So, Kenneth Feinberg is ordering steep cuts in the compensation of various bank and financial executives.  Clearly there is no constitutional foundation for this incredible power grab by the White House. Mr. Feinberg, who apparently rejects the nickname of ” Pay Czar” but not the authority of the role will use this power regardless. He claims only the highest of motives. He is trying only to recoup the bail out money given to the banks already.  He is simply a steward of taxpayer funds.

Many in all positions of the political spectrum will forgive this one time intrusion. After all, they reason, the banks DID take federal money, now they have to dance to the federal tune.

I see some problems with this. First, as many accounts have shown there was little choice on the part of most of the execs who took funds. Stories abound of the closed-door pressure meeting in which GW Bushes treasury secretary essentially forced the major banks to take money, in order not to taint only one financial institution.  Secondly there was no valid authority for the Treasury to use taxpayer money to save, and essentially buy private corporations.  All this was cloaked in a blanket of  ‘temporary emergency’ but emergency is not a valid reason to void constitutional principles.

Finally history shows us that once the federal government takes a new power it is rarely surrendered.  Using the broad and nearly limitless powers found hidden in the ‘Interstate Commerce Clause’ the federal government has taken control of vast chunks of the private economy in the name of exigent circumstances and never relinquished the shackles once placed.  Using the doctrine of Eminent Domain, much private property has essentially been taken from owners simply for the benefit of others. See for example the now infamous Kelo case. The socialists in congress now will use this as a template for future action. Once the public is shown that the government has such a power, regardless of the extra-constitutional origin of such powers, the government will simply continue to use it. Saying,  ‘ well we have done it before’ is often the only justification for future abuses.

The public at large, intentionally educated to be ignorant of constitutional principles and the proper rule of law, will simply assume that as long as it is some  ‘rich guy’s bonuses’ getting clipped  they are in no danger of it affecting them.  The history of creeping use of ill gained power shows that it will be a matter of when, not if, congress begins to extend the power to regulate the pay of private citizens compensation.

Feinberg is an abomination. His power is absolute. There is only one appeal to is rulings. And Feinberg himself hears the appeal. Unlikely that he will overrule himself.

Keep the Faith.

Why Is All This REALLY Being Done?

Posted by revkharma on August 17, 2009

Bailout, Cap and Trade, Stimulus,  Government take over of Auto industry, Government take over of financial services industry, Pay czar, science czar, green czar Fix the broken health care system…

Why is so much happening at once.  So many things happening, it’s tough to track all of it. So many different areas being adjusted, tweaked, tinkered with.

Remember the campaign rhetoric of then Senator Obama? We will remake America.  Just how is he planning that? Look to all his agenda items, and you can see just what’s going on, but if you take a few steps back you can see the pattern all this activity begins to form.

All of this is done with one main theme, a hidden framework which supports all the trinkets sparkling on Obama’s goodie tree. Liberty.

Obama and his progressive allies, from Alinsky on down are opposed to individual ordered liberty.  By offering to have the government ‘take care’ of the needs of so many troubled Americans, he will help you right into ordered slavery.

Liberty is about individual freedom, but it is also about individual responsibility. When you surrender the responsibility to care for your medical needs, you surrender the liberty to do so also.  You give some government system the authority to decide what is good for you, and you give up the right to say that for yourself.

A perfect illustration of this would be what has happened to the care of the needy. In days past, local communities would band together, Helping neighbors, or providing for those who had been hit by some dire event and help them out.  Think back to ‘olden times’ and the stories of ‘barn raisings’ in rural communities.  Think to church run soup kitchens, and similar operations. All this has been replaced by government run or funded systems, such as AFDC, WIC or medicaid programs. All are funded by government. As  the big government Leviathan has expanded, taking on the responsibility for such tasks, it has taken control, and individuals have provided less and less for their own neighbors. Taxes, taken by force ( Do you think if you said, ‘no thanks’ the IRS would go away) from every productive citizen are allocated by bureaucrats to those deemed needy by the government. There is no choice, no liberty no individual participation or responsibility permitted. Assistance is allocated simply according to government regulations. This has of course, freed  those who so choose to say ” my money is already used to help, so I have no need to do anything myself to help those around me.”

All of this will be compounded with more intrusion of  oppressive government into the sphere of what was previously individual liberty. Everything from exercise habits to diet will come under scrutiny from a government that provides your ‘health care’. There can be absolutely no area excluded from such a government.

None of this crisis mode thinking is about any of the individual topics which the press wants us to pay attention.  The crisis of the week is a diversion. Each new topic brings a frenzy of attention and discussion and much anger. Each new topic distracts from the big picture. These people are simply convinced that only they are smart enough to run your life. The burdens of self government and individual liberty are simply too hard for the people to handle, and so will be lifted from our shoulders and taken by the DC Government. They actually believe a ‘perfect society’ can be created if only they can have all the power and authority to decide how each day to day event should be handled. As long as the enlightened progressives can install their fascist system, they can repair and remake the world into a perfect society. Peace will reign. But remember one thing. One of the most peaceful places in the world is a cemetery.  The only peace their system can guarantee is the peace of the dead.

There are two books which I suggest you find time to read. Liberal Fascism, by Jonah Goldberg is one.  The other is Liberty and Tyranny by Mark Levin. Each of these will give a greater understanding of the history of such systemic attempts to crush liberty. Each will provide enough information to let you see clearly the true goals of all of this.  Understanding is the first step to thwarting the dangerous plans which are being implemented now. Make time to read, then make the effort to speak out to thwart this incredibly dangerous agenda.  Now is the time, now is the moment.  Don’t wait or you will be ‘cared for’ completely by your federal bureaucrats. Cared for, and controlled.

Keep the Faith!

Is The White House Compiling An ‘Enemies List”?

Posted by revkharma on August 6, 2009

Day after day, this administration seems to push things further and further. During the Bush years, we saw the adoption of the Patriot Act as a direct response to an attack on our country. Many questioned, some quite loudly if the danger was sufficient to justify the curtailing of liberty which accompanied the new rules. While many objected, there was at least some rational purpose, an attempt to find and stop those who would attack us again.

The danger was, and is clear. In addition to the short term infringement of our freedom, the use and abuse of the Patriot Act powers by any future administration, with perhaps a less than pure motivation was always lurking.

Now we see that even more than just abusing existing statutes the Obama Administration is moving toward using ‘snitches’ to gather information on those who ‘spread misinformation on Obama’s health care plan’. Look here to see Byron York’s essay in the Washington Examiner. CBS says the following:

The White House in recent days has taken pro-active steps to combat the misinformation spreading about the president’s health care plans…

Senator John Cornyn of Texas has send a letter in which he puts it plainly and clearly:

“By requesting that citizens send “fishy” emails to the White House, it is inevitable that the names, email addresses, IP addresses, and private speech of U.S. citizens will be reported to the White House,” Cornyn wrote to Obama. “I can only imagine the level of justifiable outrage had your predecessor asked Americans to forward emails critical of his policies to the White House.”

The Dallas Morning News has more detail, including the entire letter from Senator Cornyn.

When all of the actions of this administration are put out for view, in the clear light of reason it is difficult to avoid reacting in fear. Recall  his plan for  Obama 2.0, to continue his own separate campaign organization. Recall the statements from his administration on the need for a separate ‘ civilian organization’ to equal the military.  The press secretary calls those who are angry at their representatives at town hall meetings angry mobs.

This most recent request is just far too similar of tactics used by past administrations to collect information on ‘dissidents’ in National Socialist Germany, or Stalinist Russia, or Castroist Cuba. Use fear, use neighbors to rat out others, and you will rapidly silence opposition.

How long before this secret list is used by the Obama Justice department, or the IRS to target those who have opposed him.

We are in dangerous times folks. We all need to step up. If you are not afraid to have your name and e-mail added to the list, then why not try this. Send an e-mail to the following: ( I am following the lead I read here, it’s brilliant)

flag@whitehouse.gov

and ask that you be reported as opposed to Obama care. By the time I post this I’m willing to guess that I’m already on the list, but I’ll send a copy of this post just to be sure.

Don’t forget, send your polite, friendly and courteous message to Macon Phillips, the White House Director of New Media at this e-mail address

flag@whitehouse.gov

More State Media Lies

Posted by revkharma on August 5, 2009

Elkhart, Indiana has been the major manufacturing site for Motor homes and RV’s for years. This has put the industry in the cross hairs of the environmental movement and the leftists in government for a long time.  We see how the drive to demonize auto industry has slammed the industrial base in Elkhart.  Shortly after inauguration, President Obama visited Elkhart, promising to help.  Subsequently he took over the auto industry, and further bashed the industry, putting a spike into the heart of the employment base in good old Elkhart.

Today Obama returned to Elkhart, hoping to puff up his economic plan in front of a friendly crowd. With a fawning supine media present he got most of what he hoped for. Driving home from work today, I heard the report from  taxpayer funded NPR  ( should be called National Propaganda Reporting). First the on air reporter states that the local economy has been hurt, Obama’s economic plan has produced only ‘sluggish job growth’. Immediately after, they stated that “unemployment has increased 1.6%.” Even while on air reporters were shading the numbers to make Obama look good, the following was reported on NPR’s own website:

Despite the positive jobs creation message, the day’s economic picture was mixed with one survey by a business services firm showing job losses slowed in July, while another suggested that there are more layoffs to come.

The labor market shrank by an estimated 371,000 jobs in July according to a report by ADP Employer Services.

and:

But another survey by outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas was more ominous. That survey found a 30 percent jump in planned layoffs

Further in the report, we hear from a local, who tells of being laid off for seven months. Now he’s coming back to work. He says, of Obama, I guess he’s doing something right, cause now I have a job.  The NPR report glowing uses this as a praiseworthy example of the good things from Obama’s plan. Unfortunately it is not President Obama that man needs to thank for his job. It seems the parent company of his employer has gotten a multimillion dollar federal grant to subsidize its foray into manufacturing electric trucks.  So it is tax money that has employed this man. That means he should call and thank me, and you, and anyone else who works and pays taxes. This is not employment, it is simply another form of welfare. $39 million worth of welfare in this case. Obama is taking money from every working American  across the nation and sending it to Elkhart.

Yet somehow this is reported as ‘Job growth’ on the Federally funded radio station. Somehow an ‘ uptick of 1.6% in unemployment is reported as ‘sluggish job growth’.

President Obama is moving steadily toward a system every bit as repressive and controlled as that run by Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.  NPR is probably the worst offender in the media, and they are  supported by federal tax dollars. This is unquestionably government propaganda. The privately owned networks are simply going along to ensure they get their cut of the pie.  The established politicians are doing all they can to cement their place in power regardless of which party holds majorities in Congress. We are fast moving away from the ideal of representative government and establishing a system of power brokered by barons and those with inherited wealth. Without direct pressure from every voting, taxpaying citizen we are on the way to surrendering the republic bequeathed to us by the founders of the nation.

Senator Grahamnesty Strikes Again

Posted by revkharma on July 29, 2009

So, the Senate Judiciary committee has sent the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the full Senate for approval. The Wise Latina Woman ( I still wonder if it’s possible to be a wise Latina man–perhaps the lgbt crowd can dig into that one) received a single vote from a republican. Well, at least a person who serves with a letter ‘R’ after his name.  Recall when the hearings commenced one senator who said something like ” barring a total meltdown, we can expect you to be confirmed”. Senator Lindsey Graham has once more shown the way to cross the aisle and hand not just a numeric victory but a strategic victory to the leftists in power in this country.

Judge Sotomayor has said that it is at the appellate court level that legal policy is made. Of course she made joking retractions once she realized she was being recorded, but her intent is clear.  On the appeals court level, all her decisions are subject to review by the US Supreme Court, as well as being restricted by precedent. Once she is seated on the Supreme Court, there is no further review. The Congress has proved itself unwilling and incapable of exercising any Constitutional oversight of the Supreme Court. They have realized that by permitting the courts to make the calls they want made, congress can escape culpability in the eyes of the voters. This is why the makeup of the Supreme Court is so important. This is why it must be guarded. This is why it was important for Senate opponents of the policies of the current administration to stand on principles and resist , even in the face of inevitable loss, the appointment of yet another opponent of the clear and original intent of the founders to the Supreme Court.

Lindsey Graham won election to replace the late Strom Thurmond. Much can be said of ‘ Ol Strom’ but at least he harbored no expansionist views of the government.  Graham assumed his mantle, publicly identifying his campaign that way. Once in office he has followed his idol Senator John McCain in pursuing accommodation  with the opposing party in a way which could make Vichy Frenchmen proud.

For years many have said the problem in government is the incumbent crowd. Once in office, politicians simply go along, and do whatever will keep them seated in DC. Here is a clear case.  If ever there was a time for those who call themselves ‘Conservatives’ to stand firm, this is it. If ever there was a time for those who cherish the ideals of the Constitution to stand up, this is it.  If you have ever said, ” It’s time to throw the bums out!” it is clearly time to stand firm and have the courage of your convictions. Don’t hide behind party loyalty any more. Putting party first only puts the country second.

From this moment I will work and will encourage and drive and shout and cajole for Senator Lindsey Graham to be voted out of office. Regardless of the costume, I will cast a vote for whoever seems most likely to defeat him in the next vote for his seat in the United States Senate. I will seek the most likely person to uphold true and realistic Constitutional principles. But, should it come to a choice between Senator Lindsey Grahamnesty and some hack wearing a donkey suit, this time the donkey gets my vote. After all, what will be the effective difference? Graham and his deal making pals have essentially supported the Dems anyhow.

It is time for change. If you are in office, you should be turned out. Graham MUST go.

Look Away, Ignore The Man Behind The Curtain. ( again)

Posted by revkharma on July 16, 2009

There is so much smoke and mirrors, we never know where to look. When something truly important is happening, most of the people in this nation are too distracted to see what’s going on. This is by design. If the people who paid the bills knew what they were paying for, they would be outraged.

The most recent examples:

A couple of weeks ago, all media attention was focused on the ‘Michael Jackson Funeral’ seemingly the most important news on the planet. While that was covered end to end, all the 24 hour news channels wall to wall, the house slammed a  thousand page ‘climate change’ Cap and Trade bill through with barely a comment from anyone. At the last moment, a three hundred page amendment was also put in place. This contained payoff money to just enough legislators to buy their complicity in robbing their constituents.
In fact, the ‘bill’ that was voted on did not actually exist. There was no single printed version of ANYTHING. But this momentous legislation was forced through with little notice.
This week we have the glorious spectacle of ‘hearings’ into the nomination of a clearly radical jurist to the Supreme Court of the United States. We are focused on her ‘Wise Latina’ quote. All the supposed ‘right wing’ media are screaming about that. All attention is on that throw away line. With barely a few sentences this canard can be dismissed and ignored. Then the legal geniuses like Lindsay ‘Grahamnesty’ from South Carolina can agree that barring a ‘meltdown’ he will vote to confirm her. After all, she’s not really a racist or a bigot. That would be the worst possible thing we could do to the Supreme Court.

The real issue is her appeal to international law to drive the Supreme Court.  IN Roper v. Simmons, and Lawrence v. Texas:

Judge Sotomayor said, the court was using the foreign or international law to “help us understand what the concepts meant to other countries and . . . whether our understanding of our own constitutional rights fell into the mainstream of human thinking.

Another dangerous area will be Second Amendment law. Judge Sotomayor, has generally found the right to bear arms is NOT a fundamental right. Legally this view holds that such rights do not pre-exist the Constitution, and thus can be regulated. In a ruling in a NY case about martial arts weapons, her ruling displayed such views. From Volokh,  here are details:

In other words, the Second Amendment is not “a fundamental right.” The Sotomayor panel could have offered a legal explanation for why (in the panel’s opinion) nunchaku are not “arms” within the meaning of the Second Amendment, and therefore a mere rational basis test for nunchaku bans is appropriate. But the Sotomayor court did not do so. To the contrary, the Sotomayor per curiam opinion treats any Second Amendment claim as not involving “a fundamental right.”

broadly held internationalist theory, combined with her incredibly restrictive views on the Second Amendment it is clear the real danger is not her views on ‘wise latina’s’ but her views on the US Constitution. But we will not hear much discussion of that. Once more we are told where to look, lest we see the freight train headed our way.

As important as that is, even THIS is something of a distraction.
While we watch the dog and pony show in the Senate committee room, the house and senate are once more ramming a bill through. This time it is to alter finally and fundamentally the economic liberty of every American. The takeover of our health care system by the federal government will be a complete alteration of the political and economic system of the USA. Once the Federal Government is installed as the guarantor and arbiter of each individuals medical care, we will cease to be actual citizens, and will become subjects. The level of control which can be exerted on an individual when the government controls the payment for and allocation of all medical treatment is beyond comprehension. There is no area of life which cannot conceivably be regulated by the government in the ‘interest of controlling medical costs.’ Everything from the food you eat to the job you hold, to your after hours hobbies can affect your health. If a central federal authority is ‘paying for your health care’ it can regulate, and dictate any and all activities which impact that cost, as it is now a federal interest. By legislating mandatory participation, they can then legislate mandatory regulation.
But the news is watching the Sotomayor hearings.
Funny how that works out, isn’t it.
We are about to– no we have ALREADY run off the rails. We are not the same country I grew up in.
