Questions That Bothered Him So

Posted by revkharma on February 13, 2009

An old Jimmy Buffett song has a coda, with the following words:

“…lookin for answers
To questions that bothered him so “

Lately there have been so many different things going on, that those lyrics came to mind. I have so many questions. Here are a few thoughts, and some questions that are certainly bothering me:

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”– Raum Emanuel, Chief of Staff for the Great and Powerful Obama

The Great and Powerful Obama recently said the following, during one of his regular radio addresses:

“…if we don’t move swiftly to put this plan in motion, our economic crisis could become a national catastrophe.

Now we have been regaled with tales of woe and misery to follow should we not kneel and submit more and more of our free market economy, and thus our lives to be ruled by Obama and his pals in congress. Nancy Pelosi, the Hag from San Fran essentially composed the bill in secret. Harry Reid did the same in the Senate. Eventually there was a “Compromise committee” to work out the differences. They did things like strip out the ‘e-verify’ provisions, thus allowing illegal immigrants to obtain money to help us out of our crisis.

I can’t shake the feeling that this entire thing is simply a great big smoke screen. The tax cheating Treasury secretary pretends to explain his plan, gives an outline worthy of Abbott and Costello, and the stock market tanks again. Then we are told the crisis is worse than we thought, and of course the solution has got to be more government.

Not just more government, but more of their kind of government. Little noticed in the shriek and shout over the ‘stimulus bill’ is a bill introduced into the house.  House resolution 5, introduced Jan 6 by Jose Serrano of NY looks repeal the 22nd Amendment. This will repeal presidential term limits. Imagine how much fun the Great and Powerful Obama could have if he could be elected to four terms, like his hero FDR?

Remember, this is the crowd who condemned GW Bush for running up the deficit. ( And I don’t disagree with that criticism either!) But now, with a single bill they are preparing to DOUBLE the projected deficit for the current fiscal year. They have their strategic partners in the pliant media take to the airwaves and tell us how “this is as bad as the Great Depression”. The next breath emerges with prescriptions to cure the disease of deficits with …MORE DEFICITS!. Imagine this, you have run up your credit cards, and now have some steep payments coming due. You owe $1000.00 in payments, and have $50.00 in your check book. How do you solve the problem? Easy, advance an extra grand from your credit cards to pay the credit card bills! All fixed! Well, we all know how long THAT would work. And deficit spending, to fix a deficit induced economic collapse will work out just as well!

Next question, who’s funding the deficits? We are selling treasury paper to the Chinese government on a regular basis. We purchase their slave manufactured trinkets with worthless paper money, which is backed by a treasury funded by money borrowed from the Chinese. We all know the Communist Chinese are devout and faithful friends of the USA. What happens when they call the notes? What will happen on the day that we can’t borrow any more to pay the outstanding debt?  What part of America will be claimed to pay our debts?  Will the American labor market become the next pool of slave labor to enable the Chinese  to continue to make cheap goods to sell to other countries?

I started with the old pirate singer’s words. The problem is I only have questions, I am not close to the answers. Or maybe I simply don’t want to know the answers that I suspect may be true. I and many others are dancing around the issue, but the path is narrowing, and more and more it appears that the road we are travelling will be hard and rough travelling. What the world looks like if and when we finish this part of the journey is anyone’s guess. I don’t doubt that it will not resemble what we have seen in the past.

Robert A. Heinlein once said:You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don’t ever count on having both at once.  We may need to consider his words carefully.

Keep the Faith
